Corporal is the first Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) rank that a cadet can achieve. There is not a regulated time limit for gaining this first rank only meeting all aspects and standards from a set criteria. High standards in Drill, Dress, Discipline, Leadership, Teamwork Skills, Smartness, Appearance & Courtesy are all qualities that are included in the Squadron Staff Monitoring Programme when making a promotional decision. On average, this rank can be awarded to a cadet who has served at least two years active service but history has proven that this can be much less if the standards and qualities mentioned above are high enough. A Corporal is a Junior NCO (JNCO) and acts as the main liaison between the cadets and the Senior NCO (SNCO). Cadet Classification does not bare an influence on gaining this rank. The distinguishing features of this rank are two silver chevrons with their points facing downwards and is worn on the epaulettes of the shirt or jumper.

There is not a regulated time limit for the length of service required to gain Sergeant after serving as a Corporal but the standards and qualities required are higher than a Corporal. At 2492 (Luton Airport) Squadron, an internal interview & selection process is carried out to ensure the correct selection is made. Appointment is from the Squadron Commander after full consultation with the interviewing staff. Depending on the size of a Squadron, a Sergeant will be normally be second In-Charge (2IC) of a Flight or Syndicate. The distinguishing features of this rank are three silver chevrons with their points facing downwards and is worn on the epaulettes of the shirt or jumper.
Flight Sergeant is the second highest SNCO rank and is gained after a cadet has served enough active time as a Sergeant. There is not a regulated time limit for the length of service required to gain Flight Sergeant after serving as a Sergeant but the standards and qualities required are higher than a Sergeant and much higher than a Corporal. Flight Sergeant is the highest a Squadron Commander can promote a cadet internally. Appointment is from the Squadron Commanding Officer after full consultation with the interviewing staff. Depending on the size of a Squadron, a Flight Sergeant will normally be first In-Charge (IC) of a Flight or Syndicate and therefore known as the 'Non-Commissioned Officer In Command' (NCOIC). The distinguishing features of this rank are three silver chevrons with a crown above them and their points facing downwards. This rank is worn on the epaulettes of the shirt or jumper.
Cdt Flight Sergeant
Cadet Warrant Officer (CWO) is the third and highest SNCO rank and is gained after a cadet has served enough active time as a Flight Sergeant. There is not a regulated time limit for the length of service required to gain CWO after serving as a Flight Sergeant but the standards and qualities required are higher than a Flight Sergeant and much higher than a Sergeant. CWO is gained through an interview process with the Wing Commander after recommendation from the Squadron Commander. At 2492 (Luton Airport) Squadron, an internal interview & selection process is carried out to ensure the correct selection is made before the interview with the Wing Commander. Depending on the size of a Squadron, a CWO will normally be first In-Charge (IC) of a Flight or Syndicate and therefore known as the 'Non-Commissioned Officer In Command' (NCOIC). The distinguishing features of this rank is a crown in the centre surrounded by laurel wreath. This rank is worn on the epaulettes of the shirt or jumper.
